Analysis of AS thriller videos

To help with creating our own thriller opening, I am going to analyse some other thriller openings that have been made by students so that we can see what effects and shots look good and are actually possible to do so that our opening can look as best as possible.

The first thriller opening that I am going to analyse is shown below.

I have chosen to analyse this thriller opening because its uses many different editorial effects that makes it look very professional and overall I think its a very good thriller opening to look at when looking at ideas for our own opening.
The titles of this thriller show that its going to bean action thriller and possibly something involving agents or secret intelligence because the font is very similar to films of them genres like the Bourne films. The colour chosen for these titles are very effective because they stand out against the very dark background. They are also positioned on the screen very well because they don't cover anything important and they still allow us to see the background without being hard to see.
The opening was mainly shown in black and white which is a very popular editing effect, but in this video it really fits with the genre as it brings a serious feel to film. It feels more serious because often colour can be used to show something fun or happy, so without any colour it can be used the show the opposite and to use it in a thriller is one of he best genres for it to be used for. This effect is also shown to use different time periods as its shown in the videos of the past terrorist attacks, but when the thriller goes back to present time the man and the following scenes are shown in colour. This makes switching from different time periods very easy and less complicated for the audience.
One of the best features of this opening is the way they have used clips of real events that have been shown on the news. This really makes the thriller a lot more realistic and shows how professional the opening is, even though it has been created by students. This also tells the audience what the film is going to be about which is presumably something to do with terrorist attacks, which I think is a very mature choice of plot as it could be quite complicated to actually create an opening for, but this group have done extremely well and have used these clips in the perfect way as the video still flows well even with different clips used.
The sounds within this opening start of very gentle and everything is quite quiet but there is a constant flow of music which doesn't create a feeling of fear or tension because its just a intense but calm feeling, so when the loud explosions start happening it really shocks you as its not expected at all. The loudness of the first explosion makes you realise that this film isn't going be a predictable one at all, which would make the audience want to continue watching if it was a real film, which is ultimately the main goal of creating a good opening sequence.
